COVID Safety - Wear your face masks!

SAFETY MEASURES
(not just for COVID anymore!)

Hello Sprinkle Squad!!! 💖 Please read the entire page

We hope you are doing well and safe as we figure out how to move forward with celebrating our kids’ special moments :) We have a new and mandatory safety protocol in order to ensure the wellness of all of our volunteers, kids, and agency staff.

Please take a look at the giant red checklist below to ensure that you can participate in baking or delivering the cakes. You must be able to check off every safety step and you will sign an acknowledgment receipt when signing up for cakes on the Task Calendar.

September 9, 2023 – Update

We reserve the right to pause operations in any individual U.S. state, Chapter, or our organization as a whole if the CDC or COVID data shows high risk toward the safety of our volunteers, kids, and staff.

We’ve made a few updates! We’re a few years from the start of the pandemic, and things are going back to “normal” with the addition of COVID-19 on top of the flu and the common cold, all of which - like food borne illnesses - are quite contagious. We still have restrictions in place for if you’ve been sick or traveled, but otherwise wearing gloves and a mask is not required going forward for any of the baking process. We will update our volunteer orientation training as soon as we are able. The rest of these are practices we want you to use regardless. When we all go out to eat, we want to feel safe that the chef kept clean, too.

  • I am not currently sick nor have been sick for the last 14 days

  • To my knowledge, I have not come into contact with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days. If so, I must wait 14 days (in self-quarantine) before baking with For Goodness Cakes

  • If I have travelled out-of-state or via any airline, I must self-quarantine for 14 days before baking with For Goodness Cakes

  • I will prep and clean my kitchen space thoroughly before baking to be above and beyond food safety standards

  • I will wash and dry my hands thoroughly before baking (20 seconds minimum) and often during baking and packaging

  • I understand that if I cough or sneeze without a mask over the cake at any time (gross!), I will throw it in the garbage and have to start over

  • I understand that For Goodness Cakes will adhere to guidelines from the CDC and may pause operations in certain states or as an entire organization if necessary

  • I have answered these truthfully and honestly and understand that my actions can have serious consequences if I do not follow these guidelines

  • I am ready to bake my booty off!

FAQs

• • • • • Is For Goodness Cakes covered with liability insurance? Can I get sued because of COVID-19?

For Goodness Cakes is covered with liability insurance, but it does not cover incidents through which a person may act with "gross negligence," i.e., going to a large gathering during shelter-in-place, not wearing proper face masks, baking while feeling symptoms of illness, etc. Historically, For Goodness Cakes (and most organizations for that matter) has never covered acts of gross negligence and is why we mandate everyone go through our training and orientation when they start volunteering: to ensure everyone is informed and baking as safely as possible. The Good Samaritan Act does not hold harmless those who act with gross negligence, meaning, if you disregard the guidelines, you are liable to be sued for anything. However, if you act within our guidelines posted above and someone still gets sick, it is not considered gross negligence because you followed protocol. So please, do your due-diligence to make sure you aren’t sick!

Additionally, this liability applies to ALL communicable diseases, not just COVID-19. If you were to bake while having the seasonal flu in the year 2025, you could be held liable for gross negligence. Please be sure you are in a healthy state while baking for For Goodness Cakes at all times (not just during the pandemic), and in general, take care of yourself whenever you’re sick and don’t do anything unnecessary that will further the spread of illness to other people.
